Title: Treo 650 Verizon Windows 7 64 Pro hot sync via USB
by: Jeff

Saturday 01 November, 2014

I had previously been told that the only way to sync a Palm Treo 650 with a Windows 7 64 Pro system was via a virtual Bluetooth serial port. This method did work, but it required extremely specific Bluetooth hardware, a great deal of technical knowledge and very fast reflexes. The workable Bluetooth insert was 3rd party rather than the built-in Bluetooth on my motherboard so using this method also took one USB slot away from my computer.

Eventually the single Treo 650 that was configured to the Bluetooth method of hot syncing required service and I was left unable to transfer my data onto my backup Treo's.

Chris pointed me to a website in New Zealand that still uses Palm OS devices and has created drivers for the win 7 64 platform.

These drivers are not certified by Microsoft but I can personally testify that they do allow USB hot syncing of a Treo 650 under win 7 64 Pro

One wrinkle I encountered is that after those drivers are installed the Treo 650 will loop between the Palm one screen and the Palm powered screen infinitely unless you do a hard reset wiping the Palm completely and then hot sync with the new drivers from the data set on your desktop. After that, things proceed normally and it is possible to use the traditional USB cable or cradle to hot sync your Palm under Windows 7 64 Pro

Chris pointed me to this precious obscurity at no charge. Read what you will into that. He deserves all the business he can handle! And if need be he can install the drivers for you remotely, though that case ,of course, fees do apply.
THANK YOU
Chris
